Andrew Zimmern and Kogi BBQ: Friday’s Asian Night Market at LAFW
Downtown’s L.A. LIVE became the setting for a vibrant Asian Night Market on evening two of Los Angeles Food & Wine, hosted by a gregarious Andrew Zimmern (Travel Channel’s “Bizarre Foods”). An abundance of Asian-inspired dishes spanned cultures and regions, bringing the flavors of authentic night markets from Taipei to Kuala Lumpur to the event. More than two dozen chefs, restaurants and eateries matched an array of cooling cocktails, sake, shochu, beer and wine tailored for the spicy fare.
Experimenting in anticipation of his forthcoming Silk Road-inspired restaurant in LA, David Myers prepared an elegant, spice-filled Singapore Chili Crab Mantou. John Lechleidner of WP24 by Wolfgang Puck greeted guests with the beloved Chili “Dan Dan” Dumplings that are a constant favorite at the restaurant. Host Andrew Zimmern donned an apron and dished up heaping helpings of Black Bean Pork Ribs to a snaking queue. Roy Choi parked the hit Kogi BBQ truck in the midst of the red carpet-laden space, providing an endless stream of the trendy tacos.
